This just in! The Ministry of Tourism has officially released the coveted numbers for 2007 that compare and analyze tourism in all the islands of the Bahamas. We have seen tourism steadily rise throughout the Out Islands of the Bahamas over the past couple years, but now there are numbers to prove just how well Bimini is positioning itself on the map. According to the Bahamas Hotel Association report based on numbers calculated from January-July 2007, air arrivals in Bimini are up by 32 percent compared to air arrivals in Abaco, Andros, Cat Cay, Cat Island and Exuma – all which are down when compared to 2006 numbers. Just this past year, Bimini has contributed to the heightened rise in visitors and local vendors are reaping the benefits. Numbers were especially large during holidays like 4th of July, Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend. Between 2006 and 2007, Bimini Bay Resort went from hosting two events to 12; with this increase of fishing tournaments and various events, the resort will continue to set the standards among this new wave of tourism everyone is experiencing in the Out Islands.
